Manufacturing Renaissance

From the President:
Manufacturing is Back! The Houston PMI index *jumped 4 percentage points from December which was also growing. The PMI index is the only index predicting what will happen in the coming months.
With new programming including a monthly calendar of events, GHMA is active in helping small and medium size manufacturers take the initiative in capturing this growth. We'd like to help your company be more productive through tours of advanced manufacturers, technical sessions, education partnerships and general advocacy for manufacturing in the greater Houston area.
We're also connecting with other Texas manufacturer organizations, to showcase Houston companies to a wider audience. If you missed our networking event on February 26th, plan on attending future events for more information.
Manufacturing is going through a real renaissance. Today the nation realizes that manufacturing  is key to jobs and health and GDP. Working in manufacturing my entire career, I was very defensive when the media and even intelligent people would say manufacturing is all moving overseas. It did not make sense to me. Even more so when I was working on moving some of our manufacturing overseas.
Closer to home, part of my job was working with the smaller shops for our manufacturing tooling, dies, and services. I spent a lot of time in places like Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago. One thing that I realized was all these places have viable manufacturing organizations. Jeff Applegate, GHMA's founder, always maintained that there should be no reason to go outside of Houston to get anything. The mission of GHMA is to make that happen.
See you soon at a GHMA event!
Wayne Mausbach, GHMA President
